Upon completion of this module the student should be able to:
1. Explain the development of cystic fibrosis:
a. incidence/organ involvement;
b. diagnosis;
c. clinical manifestations;
d. symptoms;
e. prognosis; and
f. treatment.
2. Provide the guidelines for dietary management of cystic fibrosis:
a. identify the nutritional needs of the patient;
b. list the nutritional treatment goals;
c. describe the diet therapy and rationale for the modification;
d. explain at least three methods of improving nutrient intake;
e. instruct the child and the family regarding food selection and use of pancreatic enzymes; and
f. provide adequate support and guidance to the patient's family.
