Student
Activities:
1.
Review corresponding textbook power point presentations
on line prior to attending class.
2.
Read assigned chapters in text.
3.
Bring to class several definitions of comfort for
discussion.
Teaching Strategies:
1.
Collect the student’s definitions of comfort. Guide students toward consensus on a
definition of comfort. Compare it to
Kolcaba’s definition. Discuss
similarities and differences.
2.
Divide class into groups and ask them to develop
stepwise instructions (as is seen with origami) on how to use Comfort Theory
and Health Promotion theory.
3.
Swap instructions and have the groups create a Comfort
Origami and a Health Promotion Origami.
4. Divide
class into discussion groups and select questions from those listed below. Share answers with class. Ones not used in class can be used for out of
class bulletin board discussions.
a.
If you were to use Kolcaba’s theory as your theoretical
base, how would your approach patient care differ? Give a specific example of a client and how
you could have used Kolcaba’s theory to provide quality care.
b.
If you did not know the educational background of Nola
Pender, in which clinical specialization would you expect her to have advanced
degrees? Were you correct?
c.
View the model on page 127. What areas are unclear to you from looking at
the model? Does the model help clarify
the model for you? If not, why not?
d.
If you were to use Pender’s theory as your theoretical
base, how would your approach patient care differ? Give a specific example of a client and how
you could have used Pender’s theory to provide quality care.
