To assure 10 to 12 feedings in 24 hours, families need to be taught infant hunger cues. Infant feeding cues escalate from quiet mouth movements to extreme agitation and crying over a 45-minute period of time. Infants feed frequently and more effectively when they are fed at the onset of hunger cues. Infants should be fed anytime they exhibit hunger cues.
