• The tongue, jaw and mouth move differently during nursing at the breast and feeding from the bottle.
• With nursing, the baby's tongue remains forward, over the alveolar ridge, on the floor of the mouth, cupped around the areola.
• With bottle feeding, the tongue has a back and forth movement.
